NFL Training Camp Notes

Kerry Collins will spend the preseason wearing a headset. The Titans will almost exclusively use backups Vince Young and Patrick Ramsey as their quarterback in preseason games, allowing Collins to rest. Collins has enough years in this league that he should not get rusty from a lack of preseason playing time. Seeing a minimal of exhibition action will increase the odds the-soon-to-be-37-year-old is healthy to start the season.

Willie Parker's back acting up. Parker sat out of practice both days this weekend due to back spasms. While it only seems to be a day-to-day malady, this adds to our doubts regarding his ability to stay healthy for a full season. Rashard Mendenhall's and Mewelde Moore's values rise slightly.

Donnie Avery to miss the rest of camp. Avery, who topped the Rams' depth chart to start camp, left Friday's practice with a foot injury, and coach Steve Spagnuolo announced Avery would miss four-to-six weeks. That puts his return sometime in mid-to-late September, so he will probably miss the first couple weeks of the season. The type of injury has yet to be specified, so it may take even longer for Avery to get up to full speed. The pickings are spare in the rest of the Rams' receiving arsenal, but Laurent Robinson, Ronald Curry and Keenan Burton could see time as the No. 1 receiver on the practice field.

Miami QB depth chart established. Chad Pennington is one, Chad Henne is two and Pat White is three. No big surprises here. Barring an injury to Pennington, White's ability to run the Wildcat means he has more fantasy potential than Henne at this point.
