FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

Monday's slate will feature six games but with a later-than-usual start at 8 p.m. EST with no games played in the Eastern Time Zone. The Central and East Divisions take a break after a busy weekend.

GOALIES

Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK at MIN ($8,100): Fleury can extend his winning streak to six games after shutting out the Sharks on Saturday. He's already 2-0 against the Knights this season, with one blowout win and another one that needed extra time. After winning six straight, the Wild have stumbled with three losses and 16 goals allowed in their past four games. Among qualified goalies, Fleury's .942 Sv% ranks first in the league.

Darcy Kuemper, ARI at COL ($7,400): A few things to consider: This is the start of the Coyotes' gruelling seven-game road trip, and no doubt the message is to set the tone early. They're coming off a 5-2 win against the Wild but have won consecutive games only twice this season. The Avs' injury list is very long and recently suffered defeats to San Jose and Anaheim. Kuemper career vs. the Avs: 4-1-2, .931 Sv%, 1.80 GAA.

Cal Petersen, LA at ANH ($7,100): Based on the rotation, it should be Petersen's turn, and it's a matchup that favors him. He was tagged with the loss but stopped 40 shots in his previous start against the Ducks, and it was one of the rare times this season the Kings couldn't provide any goal support. The Ducks have not won in regulation since Feb. 11.

VALUE PLAYS

Nils Hoglander, VAN vs. MON ($3,600): Hoglander continues to get a lot of playing time with Elias Pettersson out of the lineup, whose status for Monday is uncertain at the moment. Hoglander's scored two goals in his past four games, and his line with J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser led Vancouver with 15 scoring chances at even strength on Saturday against the Leafs, according to Natural Stat Trick.

John Leonard, SJ vs. STL ($3,500): Leonard's been pretty productive against the Blues this season, and it helps that the previous matchups have featured a lot of goals. The Blues blew another lead Saturday against the Kings, and if it's more of the same from the Blues, look for a lot of goals to be scored in this game.

Valeri Nichushkin, COL vs. ARI ($3,400): Look for Nichushkin to keep getting the minutes vacated by the Avs' injured players. He's played 15 minutes in each of his past two games and scored three points on 10 shots. He's playing on the second line with Gabriel Landeskog and on the second power play unit.

LINE STACKS

Golden Knights at Wild

Chandler Stephenson (C - $4,800), Max Pacioretty (W - $8,000), Mark Stone (W - $7,400)

Now that Stephenson plays on the top power play, it definitely gives him a lot of upside relative to his salary. Pacioretty and Stone are both having fantastic seasons and might be the best pair of wingers in the league. The Wild just allowed five goals against the Coyotes, the third time their past four games, with the other two instances coming against the Knights.

Blues at Sharks

Ryan O'Reilly (C - $6,900), Jordan Kyrou (W - $4,500), Vladimir Tarasenko (W - $6,900)

A tough loss against the Kings might force head coach Craig Berube to mix up the lines, but this line was one of the few bright spots, generating a team-high 10 scoring chances, according to Natural Stat Trick.

Canucks vs. Canadiens

J.T. Miller (W - $5,700), Brock Boeser (W - $7,000), Nils Hoglander (W - $3,600)

All three are listed as wingers but Miller has been the centreman with Pettersson out of the lineup. Boeser might be the Canucks' best forward this season, and the emergence of Hoglander provides another intriguing value play. Miller has scored three goals in his past four games despite a frustrating season.

DEFENSEMEN

Brent Burns, SJ vs. STL ($6,300): With Alex Pietrangelo and Cale Makar injured, there's not a lot to pick from at the top. Considering how bad the Blues' defense and goaltending have been lately, I like Burns' offensive potential in what could be a high-scoring game. He had two helpers and three shots in their last matchup.

Shea Theodore, VGK at MIN ($5,800): If Pietrangelo doesn't play, look for Theodore to play a lot of minutes. He's on a cold streak with zero points in three games, but the Wild haven't done a good job of keeping the puck out of their net lately.

Samuel Girard, COL vs. ARI ($5,300): He continues to pick up the slack with another two assists Saturday against the Ducks. That now gives Girard six points in his past five games as he continues to quarterback the top power play unit.

Nate Schmidt, VAN vs. MON ($4,300): After a poor start thanks to some bad puck luck, Schmidt now has four assists and five points in his past six games. He doesn't get the same opportunities as Quinn Hughes and he certainly doesn't have the same skill set, but Schmidt has been very active on offense jumping up on the play.
