FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

There are eight games on the slate for Tuesday, with the Knights, Stars and Flyers playing the second half of a back-to-back. There should be plenty of lopsided matchups to pick through, including the Penguins hosting the Coyotes and the Islanders hosting the Flyers. A key divisional matchup awaits between the Oilers and Canucks with both teams tied with 40 points though the Canucks have several players still in COVID protocol as of Monday night.

GOALIES

Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. ARI ($8,600): Jarry will be a very popular pick and will likely earn his fifth straight win if he gets the start. The Pens have historically dominated this matchup in past seasons, and there's little reason to think the current trend won't continue.

Ilya Sorokin, NYI vs. PHI ($8,400): It should be Sorokin's turn to start and the Isles really have not looked better than they are right now, having won six of their past eight, with the only two losses coming against Toronto and Washington even though they limited them to five goals combined. The Flyers will likely be starting backup Martin Jones and lost their 12th straight game Monday against the Stars.

Sergei Bobrovsky, FLA at WPG ($8,200): This feels like an expensive salary for Bobrovsky, even though he's having a great season and gets elite goal support. However, note the Jets have underperformed all season, will not have Nikolaj Ehlers in the lineup, and with a battered defense have lost four straight with 14 goals allowed.

Braden Holtby, DAL at NJ ($7,400): Holtby should get the start after Jake Oettinger beat the Flyers on Monday, which was also the Stars' third straight win on the road. It's a very encouraging result for a team that struggles mightily away from their home rink. Holtby has allowed eight goals in his past two games but both were wins, and the Stars should have enough talent and depth to overcome the Devils, who have lost five of their past seven.

VALUE PLAYS

Austin Czarnik, NYI vs. PHI ($4,500): Czarnik is slated to skate on the top line with Mat Barzal and Anders Lee, though note the Isles will likely juggle their lines and Czarnik will likely finish in the low-teen's in minutes. Still, this is a very attractive matchup as the Flyers try to avoid their 13th straight loss, and they are expected to start Jones.

Nils Hoglander, VAN vs. EDM ($3,700): The Canucks' COVID situation means their lineup could change, but Hoglander is slated to skate on the top line with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser. The spark plug winger has moved up the lineup on arguably the Canucks' only scoring line with centers Bo Horvat and J.T. Miller potentially unavailable. Hoglander has 11 shots in his past two games, so he's getting plenty of chances.

LINE STACKS

Penguins vs. Coyotes

Sidney Crosby (C - $8,000), Jake Guentzel (W - $9,300), Bryan Rust (W - $7,800)

With so many elite centers available, Crosby ranks fifth in salary even though this line has been excellent lately. They were held off the scoresheet against the Jets but all three players were working on multi-game point streaks prior to that, and the Coyotes are second-last in the league with 152 goals allowed.

Stars at Devils

Roope Hintz (C - $7,600), Jason Robertson (W - $8,500), Joe Pavelski (W - $8,100)

All three players found the score sheet against the Flyers to extend their point streaks, and they're arguably the best line in the league this season when healthy. Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to start after missing the previous two games and has lost three of his past four games with 14 goals allowed.

DEFENSEMEN

Darnell Nurse, EDM at VAN ($6,400): The Canucks have one of the league's worst penalty kills, and if Thatcher Demko is unavailable, will once again have to turn to prospect Michael DiPietro in net. Should that be the case, the Oilers offense is bound to score at least a few goals, and note the Canucks may also not have their best two-way center, captain Bo Horvat, in the lineup. Nurse will likely be hard matched against Pettersson and quarterback the top PP unit.

Quinn Hughes, VAN vs. EDM ($6,000): Hughes did not score a point against the Blues in his last game but did finish with a season-high five shots. He's an elite playmaker playing against a team that has not been very good on the defensive side of the puck, and will likely play a ton of minutes, averaging over 27 minutes in his past three games.

Damon Severson, NJ vs. DAL ($5,000): Severson has four assists in his past four games and he has certainly played a much bigger role with Dougie Hamilton injured. He's an excellent puck-moving defenseman who will quarterback a stacked power play with Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier. The Stars have not been particularly good on the road, and expected starter Holtby has allowed four goals in each of his past two games.
