Richard was drafted 101st overall by the Blue Jackets at the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.

ANALYSIS
Richard turned down multiple offers to play in the QMJHL, instead preferring to retain his collegiate eligibility and head to Providence College, where he will arrive this fall. Richard is a big kid (6-foot-2) with a good set of wheels. His play in his own zone is quite advanced for such a young player. It's easy to envision Richard as a stay-at-home, penalty killer at the NHL level with just minimal improvements to his game. The big question concerns how much offense he will bring to the table. Some scouts feel there is a bit more potential in that area than what we have seen thus far, but Richard managed just two goals and 16 points in 42 USHL games this past season.
