Pelicans Use Strong Second Half To Secure Home Win
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the visiting Detroit Pistons, 109-93, at Smoothie King Center on Friday evening.

The Pistons got out to a strong start and led, 32-25, after one quarter. They pushed their lead to double digits early in the second, but the Pelicans rallied back to make it a one-point game, by halftime. The Pelicans carried the momentum into the third, where they outscored the visitors, 29-12, to take a 16-point lead into the final frame. The Pistons had no answers in the fourth, as the Pelicans held on to earn the home win and end a two-game slide. This marks the 11th consecutive loss for the Pistons.

Brandon Ingram led the way for the Pelicans, with 26 points, three rebounds, five assists and two blocks, in 34 minutes. Jonas Valanciunas followed up with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 14 points each. The Pelicans shot 44 percent from the field, including 13-of-36 from deep.

Meanwhile, Trey Lyles led the Pistons with 18 points and five rebounds, in 26 minutes off the bench. Cade Cunningham followed up with 16 points, four assists and three steals, while Jerami Grant, Saddiq Bey and Hamidou Diallo chipped in 11 points each. The Pistons shot 39 percent from the field, including 12-of-37 from deep.

The Pistons (4-21) will look to bounce back as they play host to the Nets on Sunday. The Pelicans (8-20) take on the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday.
